I'm Alyson. I’ve written for HuffPost and Longreads and hold an MFA in creative writing, in addition to a JD.

I am working on a memoir about the only thing that came between my mother and me: my coming out. When I told my mom about my first girlfriend in college, she was devastated. I held onto hope that we would revisit our conversation, but her cancer returned, and she died just shy of my 26th birthday. My story is an exploration of desire while navigating grief following my mother’s death, and how I overcame my fear of intimacy through sexual relationships with men and women.

I was raised in the Hudson Valley before it was cool and continue to live here today with my wife, son and three cats.
